BONFIGLIOLI NEWS FROM HANNOVER FAIR 2005

Bonfiglioli will be announcing its results for 2004 and its plans for the near future at the world’s leading mechatronics exhibition in Hannover, from the 11th to the 15th April.
The company closed trading for 2004 with a turnover of € 339 million, 14.8% up on the previous year, an EBITDA of 11.2%, and an Italian and foreign workforce that has grown by 8% to a total of 1,730 employees.
These encouraging results consolidate Bonfiglioli’s leadership on the Italian market and reflect the company’s increased share of total Italian sales, up from 29.8% to 31.6%. Bonfiglioli’s excellent performance in 2004 also reinforces its position among the top three European names in a sector that counts a total of 200 competitors, demonstrating the validity of the strategies the company has adopted.

Bonfiglioli has focused efforts in a number of areas:
- INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENTS
- NATIONAL INVESTMENTS
- ACQUISITIONS
- COMPANY REORGANISATION

INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENTS
Business at Bonfiglioli India has gone so well as to prompt a major expansion of the current facility. With a consolidated output of 150,000 units per annum, all absorbed by India’s domestic market, the plant will be expanded by a further 7,000 m2.
A new sales and assembly subsidiary has also opened in Shanghai, China. "Bonfiglioli Drives Shanghai Co. Ltd." will supply the entire range of Bonfiglioli products to the Chinese market from a plant of 3,000 m2.
Bonfiglioli is also implementing its internationalisation policy in Europe, with the construction of a new factory in Slovakia specialising in high technology, high added value products. Initially, the plant will consist of a 5,000 m2 factory, built on a total available area of 59,000 m2.

NATIONAL INVESTMENTS
Over the last 5 years, Bonfiglioli has invested € 65 million out of a total € 77 million in its Italian organisation, mainly to improve Research and Development, boost production, and modernise its technical and IT infrastructures.
Over the four-year period 2005 to 2008, Bonfiglioli intends to continue investing some € 80 million in developing its Italian organisation. The main objectives for this investment include expansion of the company’s Forlì plant, creation of a new Italian Service Centre at Carpiano near Milan to guarantee service excellence to its Italian customer base, rationalisation of industrial logistics at its Bologna headquarters, and improvement and modernisation of production machinery and equipment.

ACQUISITIONS
As part of a corporate strategy aimed at establishing Bonfiglioli as one of the leading suppliers of complete systems, the company has acquired TECNOINGRANAGGI, a firm based in San Giovanni in Persiceto, near Bologna, that specialises in the design and manufacture of precision gearboxes. This latest acquisition follows the 2002 takeover of BONFIGLIOLI VECTRON GmbH Elektronik, the German inverter manufacturer, and will allow Bonfiglioli to extend its service offering as a solutions supplier for all applications.
Incorporated in 1988, TECNOINGRANAGGI has a turnover of about € 6 million, a workforce of 32 and operates in an extremely specialist niche market.

COMPANY REORGANISATION
Bonfiglioli has reorganised its business into 3 main areas of specialisation:
- Product Technology, through the creation of Competence Centres (CC): Bonfiglioli Riduttori, Bonfiglioli Trasmital, BONFIGLIOLI VECTRON GmbH and Tecnoingranaggi.
- Marketing, through three sector-specific sales channels: Industrial Solutions (IS), Industry Distribution (ID) and Mobile Solutions (MS)
- Applied Technology, in the form of Drive Service Centres (DSC) to provide specialist support for power and control solutions.
The new organisation is already operational in Italy and is also being introduced in Germany where Bonfiglioli Deutschland will be responsible for marketing (IS, ID and MS) and applied technology (DSC), while BONFIGLIOLI VECTRON GmbH will take charge of product technology for electronic products (drives) and will be investing six times more in 2005 than it did in 2004, precisely to develop R&D.
